The Petrified Wood and Art Gallery of Ogallala will host the American Plains Artists (APA) Signature Show March 15 through May 22, 2021. Opening and Closing Receptions will be March 15 and May 22, 2021 from 2 – 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend the receptions and meet the artists. According to curator Kathy Zeller, this is the largest national art show ever hosted by the gallery. This also marks the first time an APA Signature Show will be held in Nebraska. Freewill donations are appreciated.
The American Plains Artists or APA was first organized in 1982 as a small group of artists who banded together to highlight through the variety to be found in the American Plains through their artwork. Paintings and sculptures by over 30 artists from across the United States will be featured. The public is invited to attend this celebration of “Art of the Plains” featuring realistic and representational artworks in traditional media that depict the American Great Plains region–its landscape, wildlife, people, and way of life in historical or modern times.
The Gallery's regular collections include ancient woods, gemstones, fossils, and Native American arrowheads and artifacts. Some of the most unique items include artwork and music boxes constructed of petrified wood pieces. The gift shop features artwork, jewelry and other treasures from local and regional artists.
