There is a reason the Lake McConaughy area is a favorite with spring turkey hunters!  Not only does Keith County offer abundant game and spectacular scenic beauty, Nebraska has long seasons, great public access and very affordable youth permits at $8. In-state permits remain available at https://outdoornebraska.gov/permits/hunting-permits

Youth Turkey HuntingAny hunting in the Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area must be done at least 100 yards away from park infrastructure such as campgrounds and roads.  Download the Nebraska Public Access Atlas here, and please contact NE Game and Parks at 308-284-8800 with any questions. Need help planning your trip?  Hotel rooms are available just off I-80 at Ogallala, and some lake lodges are already open this spring. For campers, the water is turned on in most areas of the lakes in early spring, except for Lone Eagle and Little Thunder campgrounds. Buildings generally open toward the end of April. All camping is first-come, first-served until May 20, when reservations will be needed through Sept. 10.
