Lake McConaughy is famous for its trophy walleye, and anglers can't wait to get on the water each spring. Triggered by a combination of photo period and water temperature, the walleye spawn typically begins at the beginning of April and hits full swing a couple weeks later.

As the largest reservoir in a 3-state area, Lake McConaughy plays host to a variety of fishing tournaments, including:

June 20: Junior Fishing Tournament
Sponsored by Youth Outdoors Nebraska, the annual youth fishing tournament on Father's Day Weekend is a boatload of fun for youth fishermen and their families. The tournament offers prizes in various categories and draws great participation.
2 GOLF COURSES - ENDLESS VIEWS

Keith County has two amazing golf courses: Bayside Golf Course located at Lake McConaughy, and Crandall Creek Golf Club in Ogallala.
Bayside is a premier public course on the scenic south side of Lake McConaughy. Spanning 6,148 yards from the middle tees, this par‑72 links‑style layout offers wide‑open fairways and rolling terrain.
Crandall Creek is a public 18‑hole, par‑72 course located conveniently off I-80, just south of Ogallala. With a mature front nine and a varied, engaging back nine, it offers a classic, welcoming round of golf.
TOURNAMENT NEWS: The annual Drovers Invitational Golf Tournament is slated for June 6 at Crandall Creek Golf Club at Ogallala (Saturday) and June 7 at Bayside Golf at Lake McConaughy (Sunday). Call the Keith County Chamber for more information at (308) 284-4066.

Second Chapter Brewing, Ogallala's hometown brewery, continues to host nationally touring comedians, with terrific local food trucks on site.

You'll find live music each week at the Show Lounge at Lake Mac Casino Resort & Racetrack in Ogallala.
April 3-4, catch Ken Earl from 8 p.m. to midnight. Ken delivers a heartfelt, authentic "rockin' honkytonk" experience. With hot guitar solos and a tip of the hat to the classics, his high‑energy set keeps the crowd fired up. No cover charge, all guests must be 21+.
A reminder, the casino offers free shuttle service from Ogallala hotels.
